Restore

Restore replaces all current data with the contents of a backup. Use it to recover from a mistake or to move to a new server.

Restore from the admin

  1. Go to Admin → Backup & restore.
  2. Choose a backup from the list, or upload a backup ZIP created by Nocly Shortener.
  3. Click Restore, type RESTORE and enter your password to confirm.

What happens:

  1. The backup's integrity is verified against its manifest. Corrupt files are refused.
  2. A safety backup of the current data is created automatically.
  3. Maintenance mode is enabled during the restore.
  4. The database and branding images are replaced.
  5. Everyone is signed out. Sign in again with an account from the backup.

If anything fails, the restore stops and reports the error; the safety backup lets you return to the previous state.

Warning: Everything created after the backup was taken (links, clicks, users, settings) is lost after a restore. Create a fresh backup first if you may need it.

Moving to a new server

  1. Create and download a backup on the old server.
  2. Install Nocly Shortener on the new server with an empty database (Installation).
  3. Sign in to the new installation and restore the backup in Admin → Backup & restore.
  4. The application key from the backup is applied so stored secrets keep working. The database connection of the new server is kept.
  5. If the domain changed, check app.url in config/config.php (Configuration).
  6. Point custom short domains to the new server and verify them again.
  7. Set up the cron job on the new server.
